‘Termination’ morass
The process for disciplining teachers is so arduous and drawn out that many principals have simply given up on it, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.
Indeed, just 96 of the city public-school system’s 75,000 teachers faced termination hearings last year, records show.
But more than a dozen elected officials accused the mayor of playing “a shell game” by closing schools and foisting low-achieving students on new teachers.
