Thrill-seekers got an unexpected rush at a Jersey Shore amusement park when a pair of test dummies went flying from a roller coaster — and crashed into a hotel below, according to a report Tuesday.
Operators strapped the water-filled figurines into the towering GaleForce ride at Playland’s Castaway Cove in Ocean City but they sprung a leak, and slipped out of their seats on April 20, a park official told NBCPhiladelphia.com.
The dummies were hurled from the 125-foot structure then rained down on the Ebb Tide Suites next door, damaging its shingles and plywood, according to the station.
But park vice president Bryan Hartley said riders don’t have to worry about being tossed from the roller coaster.
“Obviously it’s not something that would ever happen with a person in it,” he told the station. “You know you don’t lose rigidity in a person. The lap bar comes down. You’re secured in there.”
Nobody was hurt in the bizarre accident and the ride was up and running Tuesday.
The park tests the roller coaster, which zips up to 64 mph, two hours a day to ensure it’s functioning properly, Hartley said.
