Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has hired private security to look after the busloads of migrants during their trek to New York City, a Big Apple official claimed Wednesday as four more buses arrived at Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Manuel Castro, the city commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, said his office was “aware” of the move by Abbott and claimed it was meant to keep migrants from hopping off the bus before it arrives at its final destination.

The Post reported over the weekend that some of the asylum-seekers had disembarked in Tennessee while en route to Gotham.

“We do know that many people have been leaving the buses along the way,” Castro said at Port Authority Wednesday morning. “We are aware that Gov. Abbott has hired a private security firm to keep families, individuals in the buses but they are managing to leave on the way here anyway.

“It’s concerning that Gov. Abbott has had to hire and spend a lot of money on a private security firm to keep people in the buses, perhaps against their will, so we’ll be looking into that.”

Castro said the security guards on the buses also “appear” to be armed.

“Again, they’re not communicating with us,” he said, referring to Abbott’s office. “We’re not inside these buses. We only know from what we are hearing from the asylum-seekers who are leaving the buses, what they are telling us.”

Abbott’s office later confirmed to The Post that the state has been providing security for passengers and bus drivers, but accused the mayor’s office of lying about migrants being forced to remain on board.

“Mayor Adams is flat-out lying and knows nothing about Texas’ busing operations. Migrants are allowed to disembark at any of the stops on the way to New York City or Washington, D.C., as they have been processed and released by the federal government,” press secretary Renae Eze told The Post.

“Texas is providing security on our buses to ensure a safe journey for all on board, including the drivers. Instead of spreading falsehoods and complaining about a few hundred migrants being bused into his sanctuary city, Mayor Adams should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border—something the President continues failing to do.”

Eze noted that “until the Biden Administration does their job and secures the border, Texas will continue stepping up to protect Texans and provide relief to our overwhelmed border communities by busing migrants to New York City and our nation’s capital.”

Castro made his claims as four more buses arrived at Port Authority around 8:30 a.m. Police previously told The Post that five buses were expected on Wednesday. One arrived Tuesday night at around 9 p.m. carrying 13 individuals.

Approximately 130 more people, including women, children and babies, arrived in New York on Wednesday — joining the thousands of others transported to the city and Washington, DC, from Texas since April

Abbott recently began relocating migrants to the Big Apple to protest what he calls President Biden’s “irresponsible open border policies.” So far, the Texas governor has transported over 800 border-crossers to the city on at least 15 buses.

Mayor Eric Adams first indicated last week that many migrants were choosing to get off the buses before they arrived in New York.

“We were led to believe about 40 people should have been on that bus. Only 14 got off,” Adams told reporters, suggesting that the most likely reason they got off was “because of the fear that something was going to happen to them if they came to this location, people got off earlier.”

“And we are concerned about that because we don’t want people being dropped off [just] anywhere,” Hizzoner added.

All the migrants who have been legally transported to New York and DC have signed waivers acknowledging that the program is voluntary — though Castro called that into question Wednesday.

“People are confused as to why they are being put on buses headed to New York City, some often are leaving,” Castro said. “They are staying in other cities and towns across the country and we are concerned that they are being forced or intimidated to stay on the bus to arrive here in New York City.”

The Post reported that a migrant bus headed for New York was supposed to stop in Chattanooga, Tenn., on the way, where 40 migrants were supposed to get off.

However, the bus driver informed the passengers the bus would not be stopping in the city, prompting several migrants to call the police on the driver. Ultimately, the bus did make the stop.

Typically, once migrants are released from federal custody after crossing the border – and evading expulsion – they are given paperwork allowing them to remain in the country and ordering them to appear in immigration court in order to make their case for asylum.

As hundreds of migrants continue to make their way to New York, several have arrived in need of medical attention. On Wednesday, at least one woman was taken to a hospital.

“[M]any people arrived with all kinds of health needs,” Castro said. “We have medical professionals, we have the EMTs, we have a lot of volunteers from different nonprofit organizations that have partnered with us. We are providing some cash assistance, MetroCards.”

“We’re doing everything possible to welcome these families, these individuals with dignity, with love. They have been through a lot,” he added.
