The NYPD will soon flood the subway system with dozens of additional decoy officers in an attempt to stem the 16 percent increase the city has seen thus far this year in thefts on trains, The Post has learned.

The exact number of officers being dispatched wasn’t revealed, but the backup is expected to more than double the number of cops currently conducting the stealthy underground operations, sources said.

Officials will reveal their plans for the decoys to MTA brass at a meeting scheduled for tonight.

The penchant for sticky-fingered thieves to snatch Apple gadgets and other costly electronics has led to the climbing crime stats, sources said.

The extra cops are wrapping up a five-day training program in which they have been taught how to behave like preferred targets — passengers who are knock-down drunk or asleep.
