A poignant classic received a homespun twist when drama students at Marine Park Junior High School wowed the crowd with their production of “The Miracle Worker.”
The starry-eyed troupe performed the touching tale of Helen Keller, a deaf, mute and near-feral child, and her relationship with the teacher who educated her and transformed her into an international celebrity, Anne Sullivan.
Julianna Reynolds as Sullivan, and Zoe Prawda as Keller, led a costumed cast in the auditorium of the school, 1925 Stuart Street, putting forth the dramatic work derived from Keller’s autobiography, “The Story of My Life.”
The “miracle” occurs at a water pump, where Keller makes the intellectual connection between the word Sullivan is spelling into her hand, and the liquid sputtering from the pump, prompting her to whisper her first words, “wah-wah” (water).
