Dramatic new video of the East Village building explosion and fire reveals the moment that a sushi restaurant exploded, shooting a thick cloud of debris clear across Second Avenue.
The surveillance video from a nearby storefront, which was obtained by The Post, also shows frantic pedestrians running for cover immediately after the powerful blast in Sushi Park at 121 E. Seventh St. on Thursday afternoon.
Several shocked pedestrians are seen stopping to get a glimpse of the wreckage and erupting flames.
The explosion was triggered by contractors who accidentally hit a gas main in the kitchen of the restaurant, sources have said.
At least 25 people were injured in the blast, and two more were reported missing.
Four buildings became engulfed in flames, with two of them collapsing and a third in danger of falling down.
