The nation’s tiniest police horse has one enormous heart.

Deputy Magic rode into New York City Wednesday to visit the World Trade Center Memorial and meet with members of the NYPD and the Fire Department in an effort to raise spirits and promote community relations with police, according to her handler Debbie Garcia.

Weighing in at 70 pounds — less than most police dogs — Magic is a registered first responder with the Alchua Florida Sheriff’s Department and has traveled all over the nation to help families heal after tragic events.

Following the Newtown school massacre in December 2012, the 8-year-old horse helped comfort children and families who had lost loved ones.

“They are so much more able to open up to animals, especially a tiny little animal,” said her handler.

Wednesday morning Magic and her sister Valor, 11-months, met with the family of Ken Tietjen, a Port Authority police officer who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11.

The specially bred small horses are staying at a New Jersey farm and will return to New York City over the next few days. They are hoping to meet with the family of Rafael Ramos, one of two police officers assassinated in December 2014 while they sat in their patrol car.

Magic and her friends at Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses have worked with more than 40,000 families each year who have experienced traumatic events.
