A thief snatched an 86-year-old woman’s pricey necklace from her neck as she waited for an elevator in a Manhattan apartment building this week, disturbing video released by cops early Thursday shows.

The suspect and the woman were standing in the lobby, near the mailboxes, inside the building at 1st Avenue and Cooper Road in the East Village around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when he followed her into the elevator bank area, the clip shows.

The man appeared to gesture for the octogenarian to go into the elevator first before he grabbed onto the metal chain — worth about $2,000 — and repeatedly yanked at it, the video shows.

He took off with the chain, fleeing into the train station at East 14th Street and First Avenue, cops said.

The victim was not injured during the craven attack, according to police.

Cops say the suspect is between 20 and 30 years old, about 6 feet tall and slim, last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black face mask, a green shirt, black pants and black sneakers.
