A group of thieves used a cobblestone to smash their way inside a Louis Vuitton store in Soho and burglarize it, police sources said.
A store employee rushed to the scene of the crime after learning the alarm at the Greene Street boutique had been activated around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
He found a cobblestone lying next to the glass front door, which had been smashed and forced open, police sources said.
When he reviewed the surveillance tape, he saw a man break the glass with the stone before entering with three other men, who rushed in and began pillaging the store before leaving with several expensive handbags and clothing.
“He was the first person to reach here,” said another worker, referring to the employee who first discovered the destruction. “When I came in they were telling me stories how some guys [broke] in and did crazy things.”
“It was bad,” he added. “I heard [the thieves] did it in like two minutes. It’s so crazy.”
The total value of the stolen items was not immediately known. No arrests have been made and police are still investigating the incident.
