A cat took up residence in an Upper West Side tree — and has refused to come down for the last five days — after a dog chased it there, The Post has learned.

The black-and-white feline took refuge in the flora at Columbus Avenue and W. 89th Street after being chased up it by a pit bull, according to neighbors, who told The Post they have been leaving food out to lure the animal back down from its aerie to no avail.

Neighbors said they’ve called the fire department multiple times over the last few days to help rescue the cat, which has been nicknamed “Tarzan,” from its 40-foot perch.

Cops were called to try and free it Sunday morning — but they eventually gave up, neighbors said.

“Then the police came with a fire extinguisher and they couldn’t get him down… and they gave up,” said Eric Puello, a nearby building superintendent.

“They’re not coming out. We tried. But apparently [firefighters] don’t come out for this,” an NYPD officer told The Post.

There is, however, more than one way to skin a cat, and window washers were expected to make an attempt to free the feline later Sunday, neighbors said.

“The poor thing. I can’t believe it’s still alive,” said Brenda Wallace, 40.
