A brave straphanger did not stand clear of this barefoot rider lying on a subway bench.
The woman instead sat in front of his legs for the Thursday morning ride, according to a photo posted on Twitter.
“good morning to this woman on the subway who refused to give up her seat, even as a homeless man’s bare feet wiggled behind her,” @BrettRedacted posted on Twitter, along with the photo of the middle-aged woman looking defiant as she sat on the seat with the dirty feet poking out from behind her.
He said he snapped the shot on a downtown-bound 4 or 5 train that he caught at Grand Central Station.
A man who claims to be a train conductor said someone should have let a subway worker know.
“Someone needed to bring that to the attention of the train crew an I’m sure they would’ve addressed it,” tweeted Eddie Muniz. “I as a Conductor would’ve in a heart beat an had him either sit upright or removed. Even though I had done that before & had received nasty comments from riders for doing so.”
Some other riders applauded the woman’s assertiveness.
“That’s life in the big city. If you take up two seats on purpose, I will squeeze myself in there,” said Twitter user GeeDawgHunt. “Good for her!”
