Mayor Bloomberg marched in two Columbus Day parades yesterday, but his opponent, Bill Thompson, took an unorthodox pass on the traditional campaign stops.

Instead of attending the events, Democrat Thompson wooed Bronx churchgoers and a municipal labor union.

Bloomberg got a warm reception in the Bronx County Columbus Day Parade in Morris Park, and at the Hispanic Day Parade in Midtown.

“I think it would have been good for all of the mayoral candidates to come,” said 25-year-old Bryan Sepulveda at the Hispanic parade.

In the Bronx, resident Patrick Dolan said Thompson’s absence shows “he figures he can’t win anyway.”

Thompson spoke at the New St. John’s Baptist Church in The Bronx in the morning, and at a reception last night for Local 1549, a municipal workers’ union.
