A Bronx man fatally shot his mom and step-father before taking his own life just steps from a daycare Wednesday night, neighbors and police sources told The Post.
Three people were found dead from gunshot wounds to the head around 9 p.m. on Southern Boulevard near Prospect Avenue — with photos showing bodybags being taken out of a home as well as a gun next to a large pool of blood outside.
A man and woman were pronounced dead inside the apartment, a law enforcement source said.
Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Christopher SadowskiBoth had been shot in the head, and the man was shot multiple other times in the body, cops said.
The apparent gunman was found outside in the hall with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.
The younger man was found with a gun next to him, according to sources.
A neighbor told The Post that the gunman was the female victim’s son.
A 24-year-old neighbor told The Post that the three lived together right next to B-Happy Group Family Daycare, which was closed Thursday following the shooting.
“I heard three shots and I looked out my window and I saw him sitting against the steps. His legs were crossed. Part of the side of his head was blown off,” said the neighbor.
Three people were found with gunshot wounds inside a Bronx home Wednesday night. Christopher Sadowski“There was a lot of blood. There was a phone on the ground and it was on speaker. I heard a female voice screaming on the phone, ‘Oh my God, Oh my God! Papi! Papi! She was on the phone for about three hours. She just kept screaming and crying,” she said.
The neighbor, who asked not to be named, said Con Ed had come by afterward because the gunman allegedly turned the gas on before he started shooting.
“I heard the stepfather mistreated him and the mother would say nothing. I don’t know if that’s the reason,” she said, adding, “There is a lot of crime going on on this block. I have a five-year-old son and I walk him outside every day. It’s not safe.”
The incident remains under investigation. Christopher SadowskiBernadette LaBoy, who owns the day care next door, said she had to cancel Halloween celebrations for the center’s kids, who range in age from 18 months to five years.
“I don’t want parents and the kids to see this,” LaBoy told The Post. “I don’t want to put anybody in jeopardy especially the emotional well-being of the children.”
One of the day care workers said that in the 23 years it has been in business they have never seen anything like this.
“I feel awful. I know it’s not the safest of neighborhoods but I’ve been in this neighborhood for so long and I’ve never seen anything close to home like this,” LaBoy said. “This is horrible.”
Several others said the family kept to themselves, with the father popping into a local deli once in a while to buy lottery tickets.
“He was a quiet guy,” the worker said, pursing his own lips together with his fingers.
Salvador Ortiz, who lives on the ground floor apartment just below the victims, said he heard six bangs last night — but didn’t think much of it.
He went to the store across the street and noticed the son sitting on the steps. He was still there when Ortiz came back — then Ortiz heard three shots.
“I looked through the window and he was sitting there dead,” he said of the son. “I saw the gun. It was next to him on the ground.”
Another neighbor, Kayla Toledo, 37, said she was home at the time of the shooting and ran to her three children, ages 18, 13 and 4, after hearing the shots.
Toledo said the family, who had been living in the second-floor apartment for over 15 years, were quiet.
“Never heard parties, no fighting, no noise,” she said. “They’ve always been to themselves. Everybody was shocked because they were a quiet family. To have something of this magnitude happen from them is very unexpected and shocking.
“If I can give any message to anybody out there it is just take care of each other, there is a lot going on….a lot of mental issues……be aware of what’s happening especially with our children or family members,” Toledo added.
No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon, police said.
