A mugger targeting women on the Upper East Side has struck at least five times in the last two days, cops said last night.
The thug follows his victims from either subway stations or bus stops to their homes, usually a walk-up without a doorman. “He seems to be targeting people not paying attention,” a police source said.
The punk accosts the women from behind, and demands money and property. He has grabbed cash, jewelry and an iPod from his victims, cops said.
“I saw this guy who cops said fits the description,” said one nervous woman who lives on East 78th Street, where the latest mugging occurred at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday. “He was walking up and down the block, eyeballing all the lobby doors. He looked like he was up to no good, kind of creeped me out,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified.
The mugger, described as in his 30s and about 6-foot tall, made three attempts on Wednesday and two more yesterday.
No one was hurt, and it was unclear if he was armed.
