Two thugs slashed a man with a box cutter in a bustling Midtown subway station Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The toughs cut the 23-year-old victim’s face, chest, and arm at 4:10 p.m. near the uptown 6 train platform in the Lexington Avenue/59th Street station, according to cops.

The bloodied victim told MTA workers that the duo tried to rob him, and pulled the knife when he refused to hand over any cash.

“We asked him what happened and he said two guys tried to rob him,” one worker told the Post. “They tried to shake him down. They asked him for money, and he said he didn’t have any, but they cut him anyway.”

Police could not immediately confirm that the incident was a robbery gone wrong, instead characterizing it as a “dispute.”

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

The assailants fled.
