City taxi officials Thursday backed off approving a new list of banned cabbie behavior dealing with sexual harassment — because they said it could lead to passengers making false accusations and ruining hacks’ lives.

The proposed bill explicit outlined bad behavior, including drivers asking passengers on a date, commenting on their appearance or talking about sex. It also stated the obvious — that drivers cannot touch passengers in a sexual way.

But drivers complained that the rules could set the stage for a slew or problems for them.

“We have to make sure this extra regulation isn’t an excuse for the passenger to abuse the driver,” said the Rev. Erick Salgado, a community activist who spoke on behalf of cabbies. “This could damage the driver, his family and his reputation.”

After listening to a barrage of complaints, the TLC board agreed to table the bill.

TLC Commissioner Meera Joshi said the agency will reconsider the bill and might reintroduce it again later.
