A new electronic device that breathes life into tombstones is coming to New York.
The $225 Memory Medallion allows cemetery visitors with smartphones to point the units at a gravestone and get pictures and biographical information about the deceased.
One of the first places to be equipped with the medallions will be a 9/11 memorial to Queens firefighters and cops at St. Michael’s Cemetery in East Elmhurst.
The stainless-steel disks are glued to the monuments. They contain a bar code that can be read by phones such as the iPhone and the Droid.
The medallions will upload as many as eight photos of the deceased and a 1,000-word biography.
