Tooting our own corn
ALBANY — They’ve taken forever on rent regulations and gay marriage, but state senators OK’d at least one crucial measure — making sweet corn the official state vegetable.
In a 56-6 vote Tuesday, corn beat out the onion. But wait! The bill still needs Assembly approval.
Sweet corn is New York’s top-selling fresh-produce vegetable, said Sen. Michael Nozzolio (R-Seneca County), the bill’s Senate sponsor.
New York already has an official fruit: the apple.
