A tornado watch is up for most of the tri-state region as severe weather bears down on the area.

The watch is up for New York City, Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties in New York.

The watch is up in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren counties in New Jersey.

Two weather systems will combine over the East Coast and set up for a widespread severe thunderstorm event. A cold front combined with an upper level jet streak will lead to a set up that is favorable for thunderstorm development with damaging winds, locally heavy rainfall and possible tornadoes, MyFoxNY.com reported.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center says lightning, hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible.

Wing gusts ripped a facade from a tattoo shop on the Wildwood boardwalk Tuesday.

WMGM-TV reports falling debris also damaged the boardwalk.

Meanwhile, The Record newspaper reports the top of an old oak tree landed on the roof of a home in Ridgewood.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. along the Delaware River.
