ALTONA, NY — An 8-year-old northern New York girl is recovering from serious injuries suffered after a pit bull latched onto her neck, authorities say.
The girl was attacked Monday as she approached a home next door to a relative’s house in the rural town of Altona, near the Canadian border, according to state police.
Investigators say the homeowner’s 2-year-old pit bull ran out of the front door and attacked the girl, biting her in the face, head, neck, hands and legs before the owner pulled the dog off.
The girl was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators say the dog will likely be euthanized.
