Traffic was crawling over the George Washington Bridge on Monday morning — hours after a tractor-trailer crash that shut down all outbound lanes.

Drivers on the upper New York-bound level of the bridge were facing delays of up to 45 minutes, the Port Authority tweeted. Two left lanes were open but two right lanes remain closed.

A Port Authority spokeswoman said just before 7 a.m. that the agency was working to reopen the whole upper level as rush hour progressed.

The lower level, also New York-bound, was experiencing 45-minute delays due to the “general volume of traffic,” the agency said.

Authorities could not immediately provide details on the accident — but CBS New York reported that it involved two tractor-trailers, a car and a fuel spill, which wiped out the outbound lanes starting around midnight and left some inbound lanes closed as well.

Photos posted by Twitter user @ES-108 show the scene of the smashup, with at least one of the tractor-trailers heavily damaged.

“I’ve been sitting in the middle of the George Washington Bridge for over an hour due to a severe accident involving two tractor trailers!” disgruntled commuter Anthony Geathers posted to Instagram. “Man, this really sucks!”
