Two young brothers were killed in a house fire in Queens Monday night, authorities said.

John Kavanagh, 11, and Andrew Kavanagh, 6, were caught in the blaze as it tore through the home on Tioga Drive in St. Albans at around 7:15 p.m.

They were discovered on the second floor.

“They took [one] kid out of the house. They were trying to save his life,” a neighbor said.

“They were pumping his chest. He got burned badly.”

The second boy was removed shortly afterward, and he, too, was “badly burned,” the neighbor said.

“Everyone was moving fast trying to save the kid’s life,” the neighbor said. “It was very shocking. It was nerve-wracking.”

The children were taken to Queens Hospital Center, where they died.

“That’s awful, just awful,” said another neighbor, Momy Alana.

“I saw those kids playing in the front yard all the time.”

The boys’ mother arrived to the scene shortly after and could be seen sobbing as she was escorted to the hospital by police.

FDNY spokesman James Leonard said that firefighters arrived to the scene within 2-and-a-half minutes and mounted an “aggressive interior attack.”

But finding two children badly injured inside the home was an extra hurdle for the first responders.

“Children always add another dimension to situations like these, it’s more emotional,” Leonard said.

“ But firefighters deal with death, injury and dying on a daily basis — it’s part of their job.”

A 33-year-old man was injured when he jumped out of a third- floor window to escape the blaze, authorities said.

It does not appear the man was related to the tragic brothers.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where was listed in stable condition.

Two residents were in the basement of the home but they were able to evacuate the building safely.

It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
