As New York’s transit agency is slashing service and hiking fares, it’s trying to make it easier for Long Island jurors to get to court.

Long Island Rail Road spokesman Joe Calderone says train schedules will be altered in September so jurors can take the train to court in Riverhead and make it on time. One train will depart midday for those that are dismissed early.

Suffolk County Commissioner of Jurors Michael O’Donohoe says taking a train to court is more convenient than driving. The court building is directly across from the train station.

The schedule change will not cost the transit agency or the county anything.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has made cuts to buses and subways throughout New York as it faces a massive budget shortage.
