NEWARK, N.J. — Trains in and out of New York’s Penn Station are back running on or close to schedule after Amtrak workers completed repairs to overhead wires.

Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell said an NJ Transit train reported striking a wire in the south tunnel in Manhattan Tuesday morning. Trains were forced to use a single track in the north tube until repairs were made.

That caused delays for Amtrak trains along the Northeast Corridor. It also slowed NJ Transit service on the Northeast Corridor, Midtown Direct and North Jersey Coast lines.

Amtrak spokesman Clifford Cole said repairs were completed shortly after noon.
