The trendy New York-based cupcake and coffee shop Crumbs suddenly announced Monday that it would be closing all its stores at the end of the workday.

The bakery chain, which has 48 stores in 10 states, broke the news with a phone call to employees Monday afternoon, The Wall Street Journal reported.

“It’s a real curveball for us,” said a manager at the Crumbs in Brooklyn Heights.

“Normally, you get two weeks’ notice when you’re closing down — you don’t get one-day notice.”

The company, which had already closed a number of its stores in recent months, told the Journal in a statement, “Regrettably, Crumbs has been forced to cease operations.”
