An aspiring Queens pol
went on trial Wednesday.
“This is about a candidate who wanted control,” Manhattan prosecutor Philip Gary said of wannabe City Council member Celia Dosamantes, who authorities allege forged some 35 documents in order to steal nearly $20,000 from the city during her failed candidacy.
“She wanted control so that no one — not a staffer, not an auditor, not a contributor, could get in her way of stealing more than $19,000 from they city’s taxpayers,” Gary said. “She’s not a person to play by the rules.”
The 26-year-old Democrat is accused of altering campaign-contribution cards to make it look like certain donors had given more money than they had, in order to increase the amount of matching funds she received.
Her lawyer, Jonathan Manley, said Dosamantes had no idea there was false information in her records.
