Tribute to GZ heroes
The NYPD yesterday honored 10 of its heroes who died in the years since the 9/11 attack from illnesses contracted at Ground Zero.
Their names were etched on the department’s Hall of Heroes Memorial inside Police Headquarters as 200 relatives and friends — including Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly — gave their thanks.
“We are deeply proud and eternally grateful” to these men, Kelly said. “In each case, their sacrifice was the culmination of years of dedicated public service in the hope to make New York a better, safer city.”
The honorees were: Inspector Donald Feser, Lt. Carlos Ocasio, Sgt. Alex Baez, Detective Corey Diaz, mechanic Elmis Fisher, and Officers Frank Bolusi, Robert Grossman, Richard Jakubowsky, Robert Oswain and Robert Zane.
The ceremony was part of national Police Memorial Day, actually Sunday.
