A trio of thieves swiped jewelry from a West Village apartment after one of them posed as a plumber to gain the trust of the elderly woman who resides there, police said today.
The incident occurred at about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, when the fake plumber walked up to the 80-year-old woman on the street and told her he knew the Super of her building at 87 Barrow Street.
He then told her he needed to fix something in her apartment, and the woman led him into her bathroom.
While they were there, two other crooks slipped inside the apartment, grabbed assorted jewelry from the bedroom and fled.
The bogus plumber then left.
The victim was not injured.
