It turns out the photograph that has graced upstate Troy’s official Web site and letterhead for years isn’t a local image. The photo was taken in Boston some 20 years ago.

The picture of a stretch of well-kept urban houses runs across the top of Troy’s Web site, and is used on its official letterhead and business cards.

Mayor Harry Tutunjian started using the image when he took office in 2004.

Residents questioned the photo after noticing none of the buildings matched any in Troy, known for its 19th-century architecture.
