The Trump administration launched an investigation into New York City’s Department of Education on Thursday over allegations that radical teachers are infecting students with antisemitic ideas.

The US Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights announced the probe following complaints about a group called NYC Educators for Palestine pushing anti-Israel lessons on young students that discriminate against Jewish children.

“No child should be taught by his or her teachers to hate their peers,” said Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey

“Neither should Jewish children be taught that being Jewish somehow makes them inherently guilty or proponents of hate and violence.”

The ultra-progressive group of Big Apple public school educators – that the city’s DOE said is “not connected” to the department — has promoted a series of seminars focused on “Palestine, Zionism and Resistance,” federal officials said.

The complaints received by the Trump administration outlined claims that the teachers are bashing Zionism while touting Palestinian resistance, federal education officials said.

NYC Educators for Palestine held a “Teach-In for Palestine” on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for students as young as 6, with the city’s Department of Education distancing itself from the controversial program at the time, insisting it was not a school-sanctioned event.

The radical group has also encouraged teachers “to take time out of the school day to discuss what is happening in Palestine,” even if it’s during “advisory” or “elective” periods.

“The intention is to find ways to integrate teaching of Palestinian history and culture in some form this week,” the May 12, 2025, post on social media read.

“Take time this week to uplift the beautiful culture and history of a people who have remained steadfast in their fight for dignity and survival,” it continued.

The group called on the DOE under Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to allow for curriculum materials that teach about the “ethnic cleansing of Palestinians that lead to the creation of the state of Israel,” according to a December 2025 Instagram post.

“As we head into the new year, Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues, and the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the West Bank persists,” the post reads.

“These realities underscore the urgency of ensuring that NYC Public Schools are led by leadership committed to truth, justice, and the protection of educators’ and students’ rights to teach, learn, and speak freely in pursuit of a more just future.”

Part of the group’s mission statement includes the belief “that education should be a tool for liberation NOT occupation and that we must work both inside and outside the classroom because the struggle for justice does not end at the doors of the schoolhouse.”

There have been numerous instances of hostility toward Jewish and Israeli students and teachers since Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attack on the Jewish state that launched the war in Gaza.

The New York City DOE said it received the notice Thursday and is reviewing it.

“The group referenced is not connected to New York City Public Schools,” a DOE spokesperson said.

The Post has also reached out to NYC Educators for Palestine on social media.

The investigation was welcomed by Big Apple Jewish advocates, including Councilwoman Inna Vernikov who claimed “social justice warrior teachers are emboldened to continue wasting taxpayer dollars on indoctrination.”

“Time and time again, NYC public school employees brazenly violate DOE’s policy on engaging in politics during school time and dime,” said the GOP lawmaker, who is the co-chair of the City Council’s antisemitism task force.

Former state Assemblyman Dov Hikind told The Post he was thrilled President Trump was stepping in.

“Because things are so bad, antisemitism and Jew hatred are at numbers that we’ve never seen before, at college campuses, the Board of Education, locally,” the founder of Americans Against Antisemitism said.

“It’s just crazy what’s going on.”

Director of Research for North American Values Institute Mika Hackner accused the anti-Israel group of being activists “masquerading as teachers” and taking advantage of their position.

“Until there is a fundamental shift moving away from the educator-activist paradigm,” she said, “our children will continue to be fodder for their radical political goals.”
