The captain of a tugboat that crashed into a barge and sank near the Tappan Zee Bridge earlier this year, killing three people, may have been fooling around with a woman on another boat nearby at the time of the accident, a new report says.

Captain James Morrison invited the unidentified woman to accompany him on the second boat and was with her below deck when the ship he was supposed to be commanding struck a construction barge in the predawn hours of March 12, according to The Journal News.

The two boats and a third tugboat had been escorting the barge with a large crane attached south along the Hudson River, according to the report.

Westchester County police told The Journal News that a witness had come forward claiming that another person was on the boat “who was not reported at the time of the accident.”

Morrison refused to tell the newspaper if he had a woman on the boat, but said, “I did my 6-hour watch … Nobody covered for anyone.”

After the boat sank, the bodies of three crew members were recovered nearly two weeks later. They were identified as Paul Amon, Timothy Conklin and Harry Hernandez.
