Two septuagenarians were killed when a fire tore through a Brooklyn brownstone early Friday, law enforcement sources said.

The blaze started around 3:15 a.m. on the second and third floors of a three-story building on Patchen Avenue near MacDonough Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters discovered a 79-year-old woman on the second floor of the building and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Rescuers also transported a 76-year-old man to Interfaith Hospital, where he died, the sources said.

Cheryl Paige, 48, who lives next door, said she went outside around 3:20 a.m. to see the building up in smoke. She identified the victims with their nicknames – the woman, “Ms. Ernestine” and the man, “Madison.”

Paige recalled how Ms. Ernestine, who has five daughters of her own, struggled with moving around and using stairs.

“[She] needed help going up and down the stairs, so mostly she stayed up,” she recalled.

Two others were injured – including one firefighter – and were transported to area hospitals.

The building has no active violations with the Buildings Department.

FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.

Police have not released the names of the victims pending family notification.
