Two men have been accused at a New York terrorism trial of plotting to blow up Kennedy Airport.
Russell Defreitas and Abdul Kadir were arrested in 2007. They’re accused of conspiring to ignite jet fuel tanks and an underground pipeline, hoping to kill thousands.
Authorities say federal agents caught them the help of an informant before they could obtain any explosives.
Defreitas is a former airport cargo handler. Kadir was once a member of Parliament in Guyana.
Prosecutors began opening arguments Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn. The defense has claimed the men were framed.
Another defendant charged in the case pleaded guilty earlier in the week. A fourth is sick and has not gone to trial.
