The United Federation of Teachers is challenging Schools Chancellor Joel Klein’s decision to factor in student test scores before awarding teachers tenure.

The union recently filed a complaint with the state Public Employment Relations Board, saying that since tenure is governed by contract, the process can’t be changed without bargaining.

But the city’s Department of Education yesterday cited support for the practice from its state counterpart, President Obama and even former UFT President Randi Weingarten.

Some 6,800 teachers are up for tenure in June.
