Passengers were forced to evacuate a United Airlines flight at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after reports on an engine fire on board the aircraft on Monday.
Flight UA 2127 had to return to LAX after taking off en route to Newark, New Jersey, when smoke began pouring from the aircraft.
The flight took off from Terminal 7 at 10:15 a.m., but was forced to make an emergency landing at around 11:20 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
A graphic of the flight path shows the plane made it about as far as Aguanga, Riverside County, when it turned back toward LAX in a figure-of-eight, according to tracking site FlightAware.

Passengers were seen sliding out of the plane to safety before dashing across the runway as LA Fire Department (LAFDP) firecrews surrounded the aircraft.
One passenger received a minor cut to their finger, but no other injuries were reported as all 268 on board, including 12 crew members, were safely evacuated.
Passengers were seen escaping the aircraft via emergency slides. Citizen Los Angeles“LAFD crews have confirmed United flight #2127 has landed safely and is clear of all passengers and crew members following reported engine problems,” the LAFD said in a statement.
Details about the nature of the engine problem were not immediately released.
“United flight 2127 safely returned to Los Angeles to address an issue with one of the engines. Customers deplaned via slides and airstairs and were bused to the terminal,” a United Airlines spokesperson told The California Post.
The cause of the engine fire remains under investigation. ABC“There are no reported injuries at this time. We’re working to get our customers to their final destinations,” the spokesperson added.
Currently, no time for the rescheduled flight has been released.
LAX did not respond immediately to The California Post’s requests for comments regarding disruption to other flights on Monday.
