WESTFIELD, NY — The military has confirmed the death in Afghanistan of a 22-year-old soldier from Western New York.

The Defense Department announced yesterday that Cpl. Kevin White, of Westfield, in Chautauqua County, died Monday in Kunar province after insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

White’s parents told Buffalo media outlets they were notified of their son’s death Tuesday.
