A speeding van slammed into a colonial home in Hempstead Tuesday morning, fatally mowing down an unidentified woman, Nassau County police said.
Pieces of lawnmower were scattered on the front lawn, which appeared to be half-mowed, said Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.
The woman, 69, was declared dead at the scene, Smith said. Neighbors said she has two children.
Cops confirm a 19-year-old female was behind the wheel of the van. She has been arrested and charges are forthcoming.
Three-quarters of the silver van protruded out of the well-kept colonial house on Cathedral Avenue, which Smith said was unstable and could be structurally unsound. Tire marks were also seen in front of the house.
