Manhattan’s new top prosecutor has his eye on convictions — wrongful ones, that is.
District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. yesterday announced that he had placed 10 of his top aides on the Conviction Integrity Committee, charged with investigating claims of innocence.
The panel will also review how the DA’s Office handles of cases, from initial assessment to postconviction, with a new focus — on preventable errors.
“We know, for example, the principal causes of errors include eyewitness accounts, false confessions and the use of informants,” Vance said.
