The battle to re-create Nassau Coliseum will be fought out between the owners of two rival New York sports franchises.

Nassau County said yesterday that it has narrowed the field of contenders to redevelop the property down to Ratner Companies, which owns the Barlcays Center, and Madison Square Garden.

Their final proposals are due by mid-August.

The decision had been expected this month, but the county said the companies have requested more time to finalize their offers.

After the proposals are received, one will be sent to the county Legislature for its approval.
