An experienced skydiver was killed in an accident in New Jersey and found without his parachute attached to him, according to officials.
The 54-year-old man — who hasn’t been identified — jumped Sunday evening from the plane with Skydive Cross Keys and deployed his parachute, news station KYW-TV reported.
“I saw a shredded red parachute flailing down and I heard an explosion,” witness Maria Mead told KYW-TV. “Then I heard a really loud bang.”
The parachute wasn’t with the skydiver’s body when it was discovered shortly before 5:30 p.m. in Williamstown.
Authorities said there was an accident after the skydiver jumped but didn’t release further details, news station WCAU reported.
A spokesperson for Skydive Cross Keys said the victim was a seasoned skydiver with more than 1,000 jumps to his credit, according to the network.
