The MTA brass are hiring ex-cops and former military members to patrol bus routes with high numbers of fare beaters, the latest in the agency’s efforts to crack down on scofflaws.
The uniformed officials will not make arrests and don’t carry weapons, but can issue $100 tickets to those caught boarding without paying.
About 60 new officials will be hired for the job, MTA officials said yesterday.
