Wild cellphone video captured the moment that an NJ Transit train slammed into a tractor-trailer, splitting it in half at a railroad crossing in Rockland County.
The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the village of Sloatsburg at Route 17 and Washington Avenue.
Footage of the collision, captured by witness Chris Schucht of Tuxedo, shows the big rig sitting on the Port Jervis tracks moments before the train smashes into it.
“The gates from the crossing came down and that’s when you go into panic mode. It was just scary,” Schucht told CBS New York.
A man can be heard shouting, “Oh, my God!” right before the impact.
Miraculously, no one was injured from the crash that left the truck’s massive haul of printers strewn on the ground.
MTA police and Metro-North personnel are investigating the cause of the collision, according to the MTA, which noted that the train was operated by NJ Transit in partnership with the Metro-North Railroad.
As a result of the crash, rail service on the Port Jervis line was temporarily suspended in both directions.
