A Brooklyn jury on Monday watched video that showed publicly for the first time a teen gangbanger opening fire on a city bus, missing his intended targets but shooting a hardworking family man in the head.
Kahton Anderson, 15, is on trial for the murder of bus passenger Angel Rojas, 39, who was fatally hit with a bullet from his .357 magnum on the B15 bus in Bedford-Stuyvesant in March 2014.
Kahton Anderson is seen exiting a bus in March 2014 after allegedly shooting a man.The surveillance footage shows Anderson, a Stack Money Goons member, firing at several rival Twan Family gang members who boarded the bus, with Rojas’ head jerking back as the bullet hits him.
Anderson then chases his rivals off the bus – rushing right past his dying victim – in the never-before-seen video.
Rojas’ wife broke down in tears as she took the stand to testify against Anderson.
“Are you married?” prosecutor Nicole Chavis asked Maria Lopez, 43, in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
“Yes,” Lopez answered, dabbing at her face with a Kleenex.
“Are you still married today?” Chavis asked, prompting Lopez to tearfully answer, “I’m a widow. I don’t know.”
Defense attorney Frederic Pratt said in his opening statement that Anderson was firing in self-defense and that the Twan Family gangbangers had boarded the bus to attack him, adding that the same gang had fired at Anderson just two hours before.
