Disgraced former Rep. Vito Fossella said yesterday that he was “surprised and deeply humbled” by the nomination the Staten Island Republican Party gave him to run for his old seat this year.

“I am going to take a short period of time to properly consider this matter with loved ones, friends and supporters,” Fossella said in a written statement.

The party stunned the political establishment by backing Fossella in absentia at its meeting Wednesday night.
