A water main break resulted in some traffic problems in midtown Manhattan.

Mercedes Padilla of the Department of Environmental Protection said the area affected was along 2nd Avenue between East 56th and 57th streets.

The break on Wednesday also interrupted the city’s water supply to The High School of Art & Design. But education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg says the school also has its own water tank.

Padilla said the 12-inch water main dated to around 1870.
