Totonno’s will reopen next Wednesday — uh, maybe!
Co-owner Cookie Ciminieri told this paper that staffers are “breaking our necks” to open the famed Coney Island pizzeria in less than a week.
However, there’s a wrench in the plan.
The city Health and Buildings Departments must complete inspections this Monday at 4 p.m.
“We’re hoping, we’re cleaning, we’re getting ready,” Ciminieri said.
Totonno’s fans have spent months waiting for the eatery to reopen at 1524 Neptune Avenue. It was nearly destroyed in a devastating fire last March.
In fact, http://slice.seriouseats.com, a blog all about pizza, has announced several reopening dates since last summer.
Colorful comments on the blog include, “Don’t you guys know about the boy who cried wolf?” Also, “Yea, I heard Elvis was going to be there too.”
You never know.
