This never-before-seen photo — taken inside the moldy and water-damaged cockpit of US Airways Flight 1549 — gives an eerie sense of what it was like to be Sully during “The Miracle on the Hudson.”

The image was shot by Stephen Mallon on Jan. 24, 2009 — just nine days after Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger made the life-saving decision to glide his disabled passenger jet into the river after losing power in both its engines due to bird strikes.

Many of the controls in the cockpit appear to still be switched into position for landing. Other photos show cracked windows inside the cabin.

Sullenberger, an Air Force fighter pilot from 1973 to 1980, was hailed as a hero after he managed to save all 155 passengers and crew members on board with his mile-high moves.

A Clint Eastwood film about the remarkable incident will be rolling out this week, with Tom Hanks playing the role of Sully.
