A wheelchair-bound Long Island man is believed to have set his home on fire before fatally shooting himself, police and fire department sources told The Post on Thursday.
Authorities received a 911 call just before 10:50 p.m. Wednesday for a fire at the home on Grissom Way near Carpenter Lane, Suffolk County police said.
When firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze, they discovered the 59-year-old man in a wheelchair with a fatal gunshot wound and a shotgun next to him, police and sources said.
Investigators believe the man — whose name was not released pending family notification — set the fire before turning the gun on himself, police said.
Dramatic photographs from the scene show the front of the house engulfed in flames as firefighters tend to the blaze. A different photograph shows the charred remains of the two-story home.
No other injuries were immediately reported, cops said.
