Everyone is jumping with joy at upstate New York’s Animal Adventure Park, where an extremely rare white kangaroo has joined the menagerie.

Cosmo the baby kangaroo had been born the size of a human thumbnail some four months ago, officials at the zoo in Harpursville told the Times Union on Saturday.

But he had been living hidden away in his mother’s pouch until late last week, when he was old enough that zoo keepers could safely perform their first “pull,” removing him for a full medical review.

The inspection revealed that he is what’s known as “leucistic,” meaning he has a partial loss of pigmentation, unlike with albinoism, where there is no pigment at all.

Cosmo’s parents, Rosie and Boomer, both belong to the red kangaroo species, the largest kind.

“We are not aware of any leucistic red kangaroo in the United States, indicating just how rare of an occurrence this is,” park owner Jordan Patch told the newspaper.

“We are now working with professionals in the zoological community to determine just how unique of a blessing this little one is!”

Animal Adventure Park is also known for live-streaming their giraffe, April, through her pregnancy and birth back in 2017.
