CAPTAIN COOK, Hawaii — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a New York teen swept out to sea to in Hawaii.
However, the local fire department will continue searching for Tyler Madoff for at least another day.
The 15-year-old from White Plains was with a tour group hiking along the shoreline of the Big Island’s west coast Wednesday.
The group stopped to rest in a tide pool when waves washed him away.
The Coast Guard suspended its search for Tyler at sunset Thursday.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports his father was expected to arrive in Hawaii Friday.
In a statement, Tyler’s family requested privacy but expressed gratitude for support and prayers.
Neighbor Carol Ashe told the Journal News that the Scarsdale High School student would shovel her driveway in the winter.
